Easter …..

Chicken Satay .. YUMM!!
Hmm .. I wanted to post this blog last week after the Easter lunch at my friend's place .. then I got busy with stuff. Oh well, better late than never .. >;)

Anyway, a bunch of my friends and I got together last Easter Sunday for lunch at my friend's place .. one thing I remember: LOTS of food!
We had chicken satay (with lontong), noodles (bakmi abang-abang), stuffed tofu (tahu isi), martabak (not sure what you call that in English), bakwan jagung (not sure what that is in English either), chicken wings, cenil (some kind of dessert .. don't even ask what this is in English :P ), cake .. satay (oh wait, I said that already).

Hmmmmm .. okay, so I'm bad in translating Indonesian food names .. but ooooo, they're GOOD! Haha .. ;)

More pics in the album … good eats … Happy Easter! :)

AppleJack’s

Jack's Breakfast Combo
That was my lunch (or a very late breakfast) today .. I was so hungry but I still couldn't finish that last piece of pancake! It was one huge breakfast! :P

We went to AppleJack's all the way up on Hwy 7 (just east of McCowan Rd) .. they serve breakfast pretty much all day (I think) .. we ordered from their breakfast menu, mine was the Jack's Breakfast Combo (comes with home fries/hash brown, 2 eggs any style, bacon, saussages, 2 pancakes, toast and a selection of fruit) .. I was STUFFED!! (Note to self: Exercise this week .. LOTS!!)
My friends ordered All Canadian Breakfast Plate (it has ham, 2 eggs any style, and some other stuff I can't remember at the moment) and Applejack's Frittata (I'm not even sure what's in there now .. but it looks so good!) .. LOL!

Duke of Westminster

Fish and Chips
Team Lunch from work (whoo hoo!) … we went to one of the Duke pubs in Toronto — this one was the Duke of Westminster over at the First Canadian Place (downtown TO).

Almost everybody ordered their Fish and Chips (served with fries and coleslaw). Apparently they're famous for it .. so we just went with the flow. What's interesting is they put the fish and fries wrapped in a newspaper! Didn't ask why that was .. maybe next time .. hehehe .. :P

Pretty good food … gosh, I think I have to fast now so I can fit into my dress for my friend's wedding next month! Hehe!

Eggspectation

Eggspectation

Oooohhh … eggs!! One of my favourite things to eat ..
Hmmm … a sunny side up egg (or two), steamed rice, kecap manis (sweet soya sauce) and sambel (chilli sauce) == comfort food!

I was hunting for a pair of cream shoes for my good friend's wedding when we decided to eat at Eggspectation in Vaughan Mills yesterday. I love that restaurant — all eggs! Haha!
I ordered their Eggspectation (their description: “Three egg omelette, with mushrooms, onions, green and red peppers, bacon, sausage, ham…. served with grilled potatoes and chef’s fruit garnish. And with a lot of love.” .. hmm, how can one refuse a good food if it's prepared with a lot of love?). My friend ordered the Eggstravaganza (comes with french toast, sausages or ham or bacon, grilled potatoes and fruit). They're all good (although I think the Eggspectation restaurant in Montreal serves better food .. or maybe that's just my subconscious mind saying that I need a vacation to Montreal .. haha.. ;P )!!

“Eggs .. the more you break them, the better they are” .. isn't that how that egg advertisement goes?

Thai Royal Orchid

Thai Fish Fillet Panang

Yet another girls “hunt for good food” night out. This time we went to this Thai place in the city west end (or close to the end) called Thai Royal Orchid. They have similar way of cooking as Salad King (we can “customize” how spicy we want our food to be). Rumour has it that the cook used to work for Salad King .. hmm!

I ordered their Thai Fish Fillet Panang dish (the pic on the left). It was very good! My friends ordered Golden Curry Chicken (pic is in the “Food/Drinks” Album) and, um, I don't remember the other one, I think it was the Classic Chicken Curry (sorry, no picture .. I think she was hungry, I didn't get a chance to take a pic of her dish .. haha! But trust me, it looked like the other curry dish without brocolli).

Maybe next time I'll get the Mango Sticky Rice with Coconut Milk as a dessert .. whatever that is …….

New Asian Legend Restaurant

Gen. Tso Chicken

There's a new branch of Asian Legend in town!
I didn't know they're already open (though they said not officialy) .. we were thinking of going to Congee Wong (Finch/Leslie in TO) for dinner last night when we saw lights inside Asian Legend (in the same plaza) and people eating. So we decided to go in and give it a try.

The ambience is pretty neat. Food is good (more pics in “Food/Drinks” album). I even had leftover for lunch today! ;) Parking is definitely better than their branch on Yonge/Empress. :P

We ordered some dumplings (love this stuff!), General Tso chicken, some grean beans (the other veggies didn't sound too appealing at that moment) and a green onion pancake with beef.
Oh, they also have a good chilli sauce!

OOooohhh .. GOOD STUFF!!

Lemon & Honey

Lemon and Honey

These two will be my friends for the next couple of days .. honey and lemon. My dad's home-remedy for sore throat. I felt like I was about to get one (sore throat, that is) this morning, but it seems to be okay now. *phew*

Some people told me to dilute the lemon with water then mix it with honey. Not sure why they do that .. I like it strong. Besides, “lemony” water reminds me of the water we get in restaurants to wash our hands with back home. No kidding!
In Indonesia, we often eat with hour hands .. ayam (chicken), ikan (fish), tahu (tofu), tempe (uhmm, tofu's cousin .. hehe!), lalapan (Indonesian salad – no dressings), sambel ulek (chili) .. and a plate of nasi putih yang masih ngepul (steaming steamed rice) .. OOO .. I want to go home! — Ugh, sigh, anyway, if we go to a restaurant, they usually provide us with individual bowl of water, and in it they put a slice of lime or lemon (to act like soap and make our hands smell limey or lemony). So yeah, no diluting for me. LOL!

When I was little, we used kecap (soy sauce – “sweet” or the regular one) instead of honey, 'coz honey was a rare thing to have at home .. hehe. But they give the same result .. and same facial expression like if we just drink the lemon … :P ;)

Lemon Grass

Thai Fried Rice and some Stuffed Peppers
Hmm .. interesting how I've been posting more food stuff lately :P

But anyway .. two of my friends (no, they're not the same friends with whom I went to Hua Sang with last week) and I went to this place called Lemon Grass last Friday after work … and I guess I can somewhat call it girls “hunt for good food” night out too … hehe .. (we also had a girls “hunt for good food” night out last Wednesday to Asian Legend but I don't have any picture for it :P ).

So, in that restaurant (Lemon Grass), about half of the tables had the Thai Fried Rice (one they serve in a real pineapple) .. and so we ordered one too.
Hmmm … now that I think about it, maybe the reason why we only found 4 little pieces of pineapple there (one of my friends didn't even get to eat any >;)) was because almost everybody ordered it, so they cooked the fried rice in a very huge wok (several orders at once, instead of one order at a time). LOL!

We also ordered some fish dish and a stuffed peppers for the appetizer (apparently this wasn't on the menu). The food was pretty good! I love the stuffed peppers .. hehe. :P ;)

Now, here's the question of the night: do you think they reuse the pineapple for the next Thai Fried Rice order?
My friend told me not to think about it .. hehehe ..

Next time, I'll brave myself to order their Indonesian Fried Rice and see if it tastes like the one back home …… hmmmmmmm …..

Lobsters!!!!

Ginger and Green Onion Lobster
Hmm .. writing this blog and feeling hungry at the same time are NOT a good combination!
(*ubrak abrik kulkas cari yang bisa dimakan*)

But it does look so good, doesn't it? A Ginger and Green Onion Lobster dish from Hua Sang .. and it's the best lobster dish that I've found so far in Toronto.
There are two restaurants that have lobster dish on Baldwin Street (downtown TO), and they have similar name (don't ask me why .. :P ), but Hua Sang's lobster is the better one.

Every table in that restaurant had lobster .. haha … two of my friends and I went there last Friday after work (girls “hunt for good food” night out), and we ordered 2 lobster dishes (and some sort of watercrest dish and a chicken fried rice).
That's why we go there actually .. to eat lobsters! And I don't know if we were starving, or we've been craving for lobsters for three weeks, or what, but those lobsters were gone in a flash! I had to be very quick to take that picture … :P ;)

Now, if I could just make these grapes to taste like the lobsters ………………………………

Sacrifice

Before After
Before After

Dear PEI Mussels, we will always remember the sacrifice that you've made to fill our stomach. YUMM!!!
That's what we had for dinner while watching the Oscar a couple of weeks ago (my friend cooked the din). OOOHHHhhhhhh!! *drools* ;)

There's this one HUGE ad with a picture of cooked mussels at the subway station where I get off for work every morning — always reminds me of the above mussels. Hmmmm .. maybe that's why I've been munching bread — looking at the picture makes me hungry by the time I get to my desk (I usually skip breakfast … yes, yes, I know breakfast is the most important meal of the day .. yadda yadda yadda :P )

Ooohh .. if I closed my eyes, I could go back to that time .. watching the Oscar .. chowing down the mussels .. slurping the juices (not sure what she put in there .. I just saw her adding some white wine) .. and the smell … *breathe in* .. the smell .. of … Salonpas??!!! What?! How did that Salonpas end up on my shoulder blade .. hmmm … I'd better call it a day. :)
